A Tribute to Joseph Brodsky, RAAR'81

A Tribute to Joseph Brodsky is a two-day event featuring international writers who will gather to celebrate the literary legacy of Academy Resident and Nobel Laureate Joseph Brodsky (1940-1996), RAAR’81. The the writers included in A Tribute to Joseph Brodsky are Roberto Calasso (Italy), Boris Khersonsky (Russia), Mary Jo Salter (USA), Mark Strand (USA), RAAR’83, Derek Walcott (Saint Lucia) and Adam Zagajewski (Poland).

The events will take place on Thursday 17 March at 7pm at John Cabot University (Via della Lungara, 233), where Tribute participants will read from their own work including poetry and prose about Joseph Brodsky, and on Friday 18 March at 8:30pm at the Academy’s Villa Aurelia, where they will read a selection of Brodsky’s work. A conversation about Brodsky’s life and work will follow. The readings will be in English, Italian or Russian and translations in English and Italian will be available at both events.

A Tribute to Joseph Brodsky is made possible through a generous gift by Academy Trustee Nancy M. O’Boyle, a grant by the Embassy of the United States of America and support from the Joseph Brodsky Memorial Fellowship Fund. Collaborating institutions include John Cabot University, Comune di Roma, Casa delle Letterature and La Sapienza Università di Roma.
